Tipps for Instagram 1 - #Hashtag

This post is mainly for everyone who is new on Instagram and everyone who don't know about the use of hashtags.

Tags

If you are new on Instagram and you want to gain likes and followers it is very important to us hashtags. But why should you use tags? When you are new on Instagram, it's hard for other users to see your pictures if you don't tag them. But be careful, you shouldn't misuse this! Just because Instagram allows you to use 30 hashtags in your description, but it doesn't mean that you have to use this much. It's absolutely fine, if you use only a few. Keep in mind that your hashtags should be relevant for your pictures. You can also write tags in a comment below a picture.

What hashtags can you use? If you write a text beneath your photo, you can tag the most important words in it. You can also create a special hashtag that you will use on every pic. Another example for useful tags are places (you can also geotag your pictures) or what camera or app you use. There are also quite a few featured hashtags.

Featured Hashtags

There are many accounts on Instagram that can feature your photography. Most of the time you only have to use their hashtags or tag them. You can find these special hashtags on their profile. Sometimes you have to follow them first. Keep in mind that it may take some time, till you get featured.

Another type for featured tags are those which are used for contests (e.g. #whp from Instagram). The weekend hashtag project (whp) from Instagram is a weekly contest. Every week on Saturday Instagram announce a new hashtag. In every announcement are some criteria your post should fulfil. You have time till Sunday to make and post a photo related to that hashtag. Every post has the chance to be featured the next week. There are a lot of contests like this on Instagram, so keep your eyes open.

And even if you don't get a feature or shoutout, your photo will be seen by many people and you probably gain some likes and follower.

Today’s topic is Photochallenges! I want to write about why I started a photochallenge, my experiences and I also want to give a few tips, if someone plans to start a photochallenge too.

Our first InstaWalk in Salzburg

On February 5^th a friend of mine and I hosted an InstaWalk through the Old Town of Salzburg.  

Our Route: 

We met at the Residenzplatz and visited the inner yard of the residenz. Then we walked through the Goldgasse, the Judengasse and the Getreidegasse towards the Pferdeschwemme. 

Afterwards we came along the Festspielhaus, the Fürtwänglerpark and the Toskaninihof and headed to the inner yard of St. Peter's Abbey. 

Our last stops were the Domplatz and afterwards the Kapitelplatz.

What camera do I use

Years ago I started with the old digital camera my dad gave to me. At this time the cell phone cameras weren’t as great as they are today. That all changed when these cameras got better. I began to prefer the camera on my phone.

But at my birthday in 2015 I got my first DSLR (Nikon D5300). I got really excited and wanted to photograph everything. But I have to confess that the most of the time I’ve hardly known what I did.

After some time I wanted to know how I’m also able to make such great photos and watched several Youtube videos and read tutorials. That was also the point when I decided to start a photo challenge to improve my skills. (I only own a kit lens so far. But other objectives are planned to be bought.)

But because I don’t take my Nikon everywhere I go, I also use my Samsung Galaxy S4 to make photos. Yeah I know there are smartphones with better cameras, but mine works without problems, so I don’t want to buy a new one. (^-^) (I’m a poor student, who has to save money ^^;)

I’ve also bought some lenses for my smartphone from TaoTronics (wide-angle, fisheye and macro). I love the macro lens, even if you have to get really close. The wide-angle is perfect for making selfies with more people. I use it quite often to take selfies with my friends when we’re at the hockey stadium. Until now I’ve only tested the fisheye lens a few times, but I’m also satisfied with the results.

Just a collage

Currently I’m thinking about some topics I want to post. But it’s a bit difficult to start, because I don’t exactly know what to write. I also don’t know, if anyone would read this. Anyhow, I thought that this could be fun.

I finally started a 365/366 photo challenge in August. Actually I wanted to start this much earlier, but failed either because of my lack of motivation or because I wanted to start at the beginning from a month, but I quite often forgot to start. Another problem was that I was to unconfident with my pics. Now, after posting a photo every day for nearly two month, I recognized that several people liked them and got more confident.

And because I’m happy that some people like my pics, I wanted to post a collage of my most liked photos on Instagram.
